Congratulations go to our resident professional Don Portway who decided an on course lesson on how to win the Tuesday Comp might be of some instructional value to his playing partners.

Don carded a score of 38 points to claim the 1st Prize Voucher which he promptly swapped for a sleeve of ProV1s.

Chris Pottinger was the runner up with 36 points and Don Lemon came third with 35 points on a count back from Denis Hickey who got a consolation prize in the form of a ball for Nearest the Pin on the 3rd. Don Lemon got the pin on the 5th.Golf_Competition_Report_358890

The autumn weather was perfect for our Mixed Foursomes Tournament generously sponsored by John and Robin Hay and contested by a field of 10 teams.

Captain Marg Trigger teamed up successfully with Garth Bailo to card a score of 125 off the stick (net 107) to win the gross honours by 2 shots from Robin Hay and Blake Wellington on 127 (111.25).  Toni Bishop and Mal Ewing came Third with a score of 132 (123.5).

Our esteemed Superintendent Mick McCombe teamed up with Seri Tytherleigh and successfully exploited his intimate knowledge of the greens to secure net honours with a score of  106 – denying Marg and Garth a clean sweep by a shot. Robin aand Blake had the third best net score of 111.75.

Anne Devane and Richard Clayton were Fourth with a net score of 122, followed by Toni and Mal 123, Liz Mellish and Richard Owen 124, Sue Hardy and Rob Bailo 124.5, Christine and Don Lemon 125, Pauline Fraley and Geoff Smith 128.25 and Karen Heading and John Hay 137.5.

Maleny Golf Club hosted a visit by 20 members of the Cooroy Golf Club who joined our regular Tuesday Competition.

However, our very own Mal Ewing (pictured above on right being congratulated by Tom Bertwistle) was in form and on fire with the flat stick posting an unassailable score of 48 points – 9 clear of runner-up Dennis Hickey (39) – also pictured with Tom.

Greg Michael was the best of the visitors a point back on 38.

It’s always a stern test of golf off the blue markers and Troy Edwards from Kilcoy GC fired a net 68 to card the best A Grade round to win the Prize Voucher but not medal which went to runner-up Blake Wellington with a net 70 on a count back from Garth Bailo.

Paul Viertel had a very good day winning the B Grade medal with a net 69 as well as Richard Clayton’s Birdie Bag for his effort on the 15th. Runner up was Rex Clark with a net 71 on a countback from Chris Pottinger.

The C Grade meda went to Mark Green with a net 70 on a count back from Mike Burgis with Jon Fairman third on 72.
