The Heavens opened up just as the field was turning for the second 9 holes of the MPR Ladies Monthly Medal – dissuading most from continuing. However, three dogged competitors knuckled down admirably and should be applauded for completing their round despite the intermittent heavy rain.
Liz Mellish carded a net 71 to win the Glassware and a $30 Supa-IGA Gift Card provided by Maleny Property Rentals with Beth Glover the runner up on a score of 74. Penny Edwards was third with a net 81. Liz also picked up a ball for nearest the pin. Liz (right) and Beth are pictured below with the spoils.
All that practice seems to be paying off for our winner Hans Van Sambeek who posted a score of 45 points! Runner-up Graham Shoebridge must have thought he had a good chance on the day with 44 points – 5 clear of David Killeen in 3rd place. Bill Reynolds got the pin on the 3rd and David Killeen was closest on the 5th.golf_competition_report_311226
The rain held off just long enough for the ladies to squeeze in 9 holes and Liz Mellish and Seri Tytherleigh emerged as the victors with a score of 34 point. Robin Hay and Mo Lawrence were the runners up on 25 points. Christine Lemon got the pin on the 3rd.golf_competition_report_309915
Despite the threat of rain which prompted a few withdrawals a strong field took to the course including visitors from Wantima and Caloundra and conditions for golf were ideal. Doug Johnstone (Maleny) the men’s event with a score of 41 points. The runner-up was Ray Harvey (Caloundra) with 38 points with Rod Waldron (Maleny) in 3rd on 36 points.
Toni Bishop (Maleny) won the ladies event with a score of 38 points on a countback from Wendy O’Donnell (Wantima). Liz Mellish (Maleny) was 3rd with a score of 31.

It was perfect weather for golf and Richard Owen finally managed to string a decent enough round together to win with a score of 42 points – just a point clear of runner-up Paul Viertel on 41 points with Gary Dallyn third on 40 points. Liz Mellish was the best placed lady with 35 points.
The big news, however, was that Gary Dallyn sank enough birdie putts to win the Richard Clayton Birdie Ball Bag! One of those putts on 5/14th also secured him nearest the pin. The other pin on the 3/12th went to Jimmy Byun.golf_competition_report_307172_2017318_1053
