Dear Members

Welcome to the first of what we hope will become regular newsletters to all our members, to keep you informed of developments on our course, and events and happenings of interest.

Annual General Meeting held 25th March 2015

New Management Committee
Three active committee members retired this year – Vice President Rod Richards, Ken Lonie and Geoff Behncken.  Rod has managed course construction with great help from fellow engineer Ken Lonie.  Geoff handled landscaping and chasing grants.  New members of the committee are – John Pottage (Club Captain), Robin Hay (Ladies Vice Captain) and Roly Nieper.   Welcome John, Robin and Roly and a big thanks to Rod, Ken and Geoff who will remain active volunteers.   Further details of the management committee and the sub-committees can be found on our website.

Club’s Financial Year ends 30th June
The revised Constitution was passed at the AGM and has subsequently been approved by the Office of Fair Trading.   This now allows the Club to end its financial year on 30th June, and hold future AGMs in September or October, several weeks before the members’ subscription year begins on 1st November. Please visit the website www.malenygolfclub.com.au for updates.   Our next AGM will be held on 15th October 2015.

Fund Raiser for bridge and path
The response to our request for financial support to construct the bridge and concrete path between the 2nd green and 3rd tee has been fantastic. The  bridge is now complete, thanks to the design and construction team – Mick McCombe, David Lowden, John Hay, Barry Retschlag and, especially Rob Bailo for his Herculean efforts.

Bridge to Hole 3 completed 13May15

Our bridge with 3rd tees, top right hand corner is the 3rd green. This a par 3.

The first 90m of the path will be concreted on 27th May, with the remaining 50m getting crusher dust until the soil compacts.  Special thanks to the many members who have contributed to this project so generously. We still welcome assistance to meet the shortfall. It is not too late to have your initials inscribed in the concrete with a donation of $150 or more. There are still some sleepers for the bridge available too, at $27 each (cheque to MGC, attn. Treasurer, PO Box 865, Maleny 4552 or direct bank deposit BSB 484799, Maleny Golf Club, Account # 452678497).

Official Opening of nine holes
The scheduled Official Opening of the golf course by the Mayor will be held on 30th June.  Before then we expect the final two holes (2 and 3) to be completed and in play.  Currently seven holes are available daily during daylight hours. Support your Club. Test the course and give us feedback.  Please visit our website for further details of green fees, competitions, clinics etc at www.malenygolfclub.com.au

buggy sheds Nudgee College Jan15

Buggy Sheds to be relocated from Nudgee in May 2015

We anticipate a welcome upgrade of our temporary Club House during May, and the construction of 2 five-bay buggy sheds to house the 8 EZ-GO electric carts due to be delivered in June. The new toilet facility will be completed by 22nd May.  All in all, there’s a lot to happen before the first nine holes is fully functional, but the end is now in sight.

Play Golf
Please visit the club, play a round of golf, or join our volunteers building or managing the course.  While we are testing the course, our green fees are exceptionally low, so take advantage of this offer while it lasts! The driving range remains open at all times except during the Saturday morning comp (between 9am-1pm approx) and the Thursday comp (noon to 4pm approx).

Weathering the Storm
Although the total amount of rain on Friday 1st May was not a record, the amount that fell in an hour or so mid-afternoon was surely a record, judging by the extent of local flash flooding.  The course itself handled the deluge magnificently, the greens and fairways drained quickly, and the course was fully playable the next morning.

Club Shirts and competitions
There is still a limited number of the Club’s polo shirts for sale – contact Marg Trigger on 5435 2812.  Our website will keep you up to date on competitions on our Maleny Course or at Woodford or other Clubs.

Good golfing and best wishes

From your MGC Management Committee
