Hinterland Golfer January 2016

Club Shop

Work continues on enhancing our temporary operating premises.Golf Shop Roof on The insulated skillion roof and signage facia were installed just prior to Xmas thanks to Mike Finely and Paul Viertel, who were ably assisted by our Friday morning course volunteers. The temperature inside the Golf Shop during the day has dropped dramatically as a result – much to the relief of all concerned!

Following installation of the roof a merchandise sales area was established on the northern wall to accommodate our first shipment of golf shirts and caps sporting the MGC logo and they have proved popular with visitors and members alike. Additional refrigeration should be in place soon!

We’ve had some new Golf Shop Volunteers join our ranks recently, but still need to fill slots including regulars on Saturday mornings from 8:30am until 10:30am and 10:30am to 12:30pm. Apart from individual shifts we also need additional standbys in case our regulars fall ill or go away on holidays. If interested please get in touch with Richard by phoning 5499 9960 or sending an email to shop@malenygolfclub.com.au

Members please note that there are still a lot of new Gold, Silver and Bronze membership cards awaiting collection at the Golf Shop. So if you haven’t tried out the course yet pop in, pick up your membership card and play a round.

Stage 2 – second 9 holes

Following much deliberation and consultation with course designer Graham Papworth, the Committee has settled on the design for the second nine holes and will commence discussions with Council later this month on the ways and means to construct stage 2. A schematic of the Stage 2 design is on display in the Golf Shop.

Bookings for Social Golf

As anticipated, the golf course is gaining in popularity and usage – particularly during the current holiday season. Demand for electric carts throughout the day has accordingly increased significantly to a point where the entire fleet of 8 carts is being booked out, especially on the weekend. At times there can also be a bit of a wait to tee off as well.

To assist with management of the cart fleet and to avoid the risk of disappointment, members are encouraged to contact the golf shop and book social rounds and carts prior to arriving at the course, just as you would do before playing elsewhere. Just call the Golf Shop on 54 999960 and speak to the volunteer on duty.

Competition Golf

Fixtures time sheets are now available on the website for January through to March to make it easier for planning purposes. Competition players are also encouraged to book their preferred tee times and reserve carts on-line via the Book Online button on the Fixtures page on the club’s website or click here to save administrative time at set-up. If you have forgotten your logon for this site or don’t have one contact Garry Mayer at handicaps@malenygolfclub.com.au.

In addition to the range of logoed souvenir golf shirts available in the Golf Shop, members can now also order logoed representative men’s and ladies club shirts at the Golf Shop. Prices have yet to be finalised but the cost is expected to be between $50 and $60 each and may be affected by the final numbers ordered. A long sleeve men’s version will be available, but only in plain white. The images above depict the style of the shirts without the logo which will go on the wearer’s left hand side.

Course Update from the Superintendent Mick McCombe

New Practice GreenA big thanks to the team of volunteers who assisted with the preparation and construction of our new practice green and bunker which should be ready for use by the end of next month. Work should progress during January on construction of the Ladies 7th tee after which the focus will shift to renovation of the greens in early February in recognition of the great progress achieved since the onset of the growing season. The greens should be back to their very best by the end of next month.

Captain’s Corner with Robin Hay

The incoming Match Committee would like to thank all members for the support and patience shown to us since the changeover in November and it appears things are heading in the right direction.

We still have a few hiccoughs with the starting procedures but are working to smooth out and speed up the system. There are a few different games in the programme for 2016 and our Club Championships will be held later in the year. The men’s Monthly Medal competitions will be played in 2 divisions in future and a Ladies Monthly Medal completion will also be included.

Please watch your pace of play. If one player in your group has a lost ball please take your next shot before joining the search. If the group behind is waiting, please call them through and wait until they are out of range before hitting your next shot.

On completion of a hole, proceed to the next tee before marking your cards and one tee off while others are marking the cards. You should aim to keep up with the group in front of you – not just focus on staying in front of the group behind!

Wishing all a Very Happy Prosperous and Safe 2016. May the Golfing Gods be with us all.

I look forward to seeing more of you out on our superb Maleny Golf Course in 2016.
