Saturday 30th July 2016 – MGC & Community Precinct Hosted the Q’ld Cross Country Championships

The weather was ideal for the Queensland Cross Country Championship on Saturday 30th July 2016.

Held in perfect weather, more than 350 runners and their families converged on the Maleny Golf Club and Community Precinct to compete in the finals.

The golf course was closed for play from 11am on the day to enable racing to go ahead and congratulations to Queensland Athletics for staging a successful event.

Now into its fourth year as a venue for serious cross country running, the buzz around the Precinct course from elite runners is that it is quickly becoming known as one of best courses in the country.

Queensland Athletics officials held preliminary discussions with Councillor Jenny McKay on the day, regarding the course’s availability as a venue selection for the next Australian National Cross Country Championships, which are set to come to Queensland in 2018.

Many thanks too to the Maleny Rotary Club who were kept on their toes parking participants and their families, and to Maleny Little Athletics who made sure everyone was well fed.

What a nice boost to our local economy the cross country events are proving to be, another addition to the growing list of sporting events that bring visitors to the district.
